For Cherished Art & Family Heirlooms
Archival Matting & Framing
Proper framing begins before you arrive at the frame shop. How you store and handle your artwork will have an impact on its proper presentation.
What is your goal is for your artwork piece? Does it have sentimental or monetary value? Do you plan to keep it for a long time, or do you plan to keep it in the family for the years to come? Or is it something for your enjoyment, alone?
Art collectors most often want their artwork to maintain its value in the event that they choose to sell it at some time in the future. Therefore art collectors usually opt for conservator quality maximum preservation framing to ensure the artwork does not become damaged. As well, often family members inherit a cherished piece of artwork and they too will choose preservation framing to allow the artwork to be enjoyed for future generations to come.
In any case, preservation framing will keep the artwork in a proper environment for longevity and also, it allows for proper restoration and conservation by a qualified professional.
However, nothing lasts forever, and it is important to understand that all artwork will need restoration at some point. Proper preservation framing will ensure that the time before restoration is required will be at a maximum, and that the conservator will have proper access to the art piece to allow them to perform their “magic” at a minimum of time and cost.
Improper framing will thwart a conservator’s efforts to access the artwork, or end up taking far more hours to do so, or even disallow restoration. When pieces have been improperly cared for in the past, John Allred works with canvas conservators, paper conservators, textile conservators and frame restoration experts to bring cherished pieces back to their former glory.
Northern California residents of San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, and Sacramento counties, as well as many others scattered across the United States, know they can trust Professional Framing Services. We have the knowledge, equipment, and meticulous attention to detail to frame your cherished art piece to your needs and expectations.

WE CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HIS EXPERTISE...
“John at Professional Framing Services does outstanding work, whether it’s a small reframe job, or a family heirloom that requires bringing in other restoration resources. We have used him for all jobs, large or small and are extremely satisfied with his attention to detail and craftsmanship. For example, we bought a family heirloom tapestry that dated from 1803 and, in addition to referring us to a tapestry restoration expert, John also coordinated the project and repaired the original frame. He has also assisted us with picking the right frame and matte for various art pieces. We can’t say enough about his expertise and will continue to use his services for projects large and small!”
